Yesterday we welcomed Winter 2021 into our midst. The holidays are coming up, with family time and year end wrap-ups. With the change of season, we take this time to reflect on what we’ve accomplished so far and it’s also not a bad time to think about planning for the year ahead. As a new entrepreneur, I am heavily in the planning stage and – of course – in the envisioning stage of what I want this new venture to be. As I did my research and searches on the internet of business owners, YouTubers and successful entrepreneurs, I’ve noticed a theme of gratitude and a common adoption of the laws of attraction into their daily habits. I don’t know if I can confidently say I am one way or another for them yet, but some of the principles – like gratitude and regular positive daily habits – are good things to start to practice. I thought I would take this time to reflect on what I am grateful for, what this past year has brought me and what I look forward to.
I am grateful for…
1- Passing all of my licensing exams: These past two years have not been easy. Aside from the obvious trauma that 2020 and 2021 has caused, having to study for exams and start your business in this climate has been a rollercoaster of emotions. I’m grateful that I’ve gotten through this first stage to be able to call myself a Naturopathic Doctor in Ontario. It was a lot of hard work, long hours and many tears. Getting through it felt impossible at times, but now it’s done and I’m stronger because of this journey that got me here
2- My health: More than ever the world is thinking about their health. I’m grateful that my body is able to sustain me and continues to be resilient with all of the changes happening. I have not always treated it the best and stress doesn’t really help either. As a dancer and perfectionist growing up, I definitely tortured it, and mental blocks still sometimes get in the way. Even still, it caries me through all my challenges and I am learning what it needs to better take care of it. Learning the key pillars of health has been incredible and allowing me to succeed. I’m also so grateful to be able to pass on this knowledge in the business that I’m building, sharing this knowledge and helping others grow
3- My family and friends: I’ve got to say, this past year definitely would have been a lot harder without these amazing people in my life. I’m grateful to have family that is so supportive of what I want to accomplish and who allow me the space to do so. Technology has allowed us to stay connected in this time and that means the world. This past year would have been that much harder without a proper support network, and my friends continue to push me and lift me up while we develop together into fully functioning adults in society. I don’t know where I would be without them and all I can really say is: I love you all.
As part of my law of attraction practices, I’ve also started adopting manifesting. It’s a work in progress and I will keep going with it, but for now, this is what I will share.
I look forward to…
1- Starting my new job at Insight Naturopathic Clinic in January 2022, where I will practice as an ND. I am excited to start seeing patients again and creating plans to help them heal. My residency has been a wonderful stepping stone, but I’m ready to get out there and start being the ND I can be.
2- Dancing and creating again, inside and out of the studio. This is something I realize I’m missing so much more than I thought. As much as I still get to dance, work and creating a business has taken some of that time away. I know that I need to find the right balance, but I’ve also learnt to re-organize my priorities – and for a person looking to work with dancers in business, dancing is my priority! I’m looking forward to taking back my time for me and incorporating dance back into my life and my business.
3- Becoming the brand and woman I know I am meant to be. I know, this one is pretty vague, but as part of my coming into my own this year, I truly want to take this time to step out of the shell I’ve been hiding behind and strive for more. Back in 2019, I vowed that 2020 was going to be the year of being “unapologetically me”. Well, a pandemic happened and kind of quashed that for me. It’s time to stop hiding behind that now. I have so many ideas in my head and I keep getting myself distracted by other things that are less important to me. I look forward to going into 2022 with a clearer head and a stronger drive for the direction I want my life to be going in.
This is my list. This is a good practice to adopt, in both life and business. It’s helping you remember where you started and envision where you want to go. You don’t have to have it all figured out (because life happens, and things change) but knowing the direction you want to go helps to keep you moving forward. Pro tip: having these written down somewhere also helps you to track your progress, so next year you can compare.
Now it’s your turn. Take the time to reflecting back on your year. Ask yourself what are 3 things that you are grateful for in 2021 and 3 things you look forward to in 2022. Close off this year, with aspirations for the next.
Love and Wellness,
ND-B
