To Achieve Metabolic Health...

It’s clear in the research and I’ve seen it done countless times; to achieve metabolic health and stability, outside of what you eat, you need to up your daily activity – get moving minimum 2 hours throughout your day, with 30-45mins being moderately high activity – and make sure to maintain muscle mass. Keeping muscle mass is simple enough to do by strength training (body weight, resistance bands, weights, whatever floats your boat).

To ensure best results, challenging yourself to near failure up to 3 times per week for a minimum of 12 weeks to start will get you seeing results and finally moving the needle along. AFTER THAT, then you have to maintain what you’ve done by being consistent with your 2-3 days per week and progressively increasing the weight/reps/time-under-tension in order to keep challenging and keep adapting. Missing a week or 2 here and there isn’t’ going to completely destroy your results, but unfortunately, if you aren’t moving forward, you’re going backwards, so just keep swimming.

HOWEVER

Going beyond this amount of activity you risk doing more harm than good if you aren’t careful.

-          If you try and increase your physical activity and cut your calories too much

-          If you increase the weight/reps/time-under-tension too fast

-          If you’re an athlete and are needing to train every day for your sport or upcoming competition

Then you need to make sure you are supporting your body in the right way by eating enough food, getting the rest and having a health team that knows what’s up to make sure you don’t build up too much stress in your body which will lead to burnout, performance plateaus and constant injury flare-ups

WHAT’S WORSE

The stress you are putting on your body by under fueling and over achieving is causing cardiovascular and hormonal changes you don’t even know about! Is your body so inflamed that you are becoming anemic? Are you suppressing your estrogen or testosterone so much that your bones are becoming brittle? Are you stressing yourself out so much, you don’t even realize when you are hungry anymore? And is that causing you to be bloated and/or constipated all the time? Do you have other health issues like PCOS or high cholesterol that you think is being well managed, but now you’re staring down medications that you’re being told to take or else your health is in trouble??
